It was a busy day for the Federal Communications Commission Thursday as the Senate confirmed Julius Genachowski as its next chairman and re-upped Commissioner Robert McDowell’s term.
President Obama also officially nominated Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Atwell Baker as new commissioners.
The Senate also confirmed Lawrence Strickling as assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information at the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA).
“I want to thank the members of the U.S. Senate for this enormous honor, first presented to me by President Obama to whom I am also deeply grateful,” Genachowski said in a statement. “The FCC has the inspiring mission of ensuring that our communications networks and technologies serve the nation’s needs and improve the lives of all Americans.”
