local-long_range_transport_insideCitrus County is preparing a 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and it is holding a series of public meetings to get the public’s input.

The next public meeting, Phase 3, is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the  Citrus County Community Resource Center, Room 121 (Cafe).

The center is located just south of Beverly Hills County Road 491 at 2804 West Marc Knighton Court.

The plan will identify major transportation improvements needed by 2035 to accommodate future travel demand and to maintain efficient operation of the transportation system in the county.

The LRTP considers various different modes of travel and will result in an integrated system including roadways, public transportation, bikeways and pedestrian facilities.

Citizens are invited to participate in the next consensus building workshop to guide the development of the 2035 LRTP. The workshop is intended to be a forum for a diverse group of citizens to discuss major transportation issues and challenges and, ultimately, to develop consensus on strategies to address these issues and challenges.

The emphasis of this workshop is on transportation needs and how to implement the transportation plan in Citrus County. Those wishing to attend the workshop are asked to call Cynthia Jones at (352) 527-5247 by Aug. 21.

Major discussion topics will include:

Review of the Long Range Transportation Plan Update

  • Update on the status of the Citrus County Multimodal Long Range Transportation Plan
  • Update on the status of regional transportation planning efforts including the Regional Long Range Transportation Plan and the TBARTA Master Plan

Implementation Process

  • Are the highest priority transportation improvements identified?
  • Are the different modes or forms of transportation (roadways, public transportation, pedestrian and bicycle facilities) adequately addressed?
  • What are the most significant policy actions which need to occur locally, and who is responsible to implement these actions?
