A Day to Remember
By Jay Conti
American Legion 4th District Vice Commander
CRYSTAL RIVER – American Legion Post 155 Family will hold its annual 9-11 Freedom walk at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
The walk will start in front of American Legion Post 155 on State Road 44 and head to Meadowcrest entrance and then back to Post 155.
During the walk, the award-winning Post 155 Honor Guard will lead the way with the colors of the United States, and the walk will stop at the appropriate times as each event had happened that infamous day on Sept. 11, 2001 for a prayer and ringing of Post CF155 bell.
As a free people, we must “NEVER FORGET” that the innocent victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America did not die in vain. We stand united as a nation and are committed to wiping out terrorism and those who plot the murders of innocent civilians throughout the world. The American Legion asks all Americans to honor the ultimate sacrifice of U.S. military personnel who gave their lives on and after Sept. 11 by supporting a Freedom Walk.
We must remain committed to supporting the young men and women of our armed forces who go in harm’s way on our behalf. Write them, pray for them and thank God they serve America with honor, courage and commitment. The men and women serving in the U.S. military today in the war against terrorism are our nation’s newest veterans.
The banner under which all of America’s military forces have fought and died has no protection from those who would desecrate it. Congress should restore legal protection for the flag as a symbol of our compassion for those who have suffered in the Sept. 11 attacks, and as a statement of our resolve to show no mercy to those who hate us and would destroy our freedom.
