The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office today announced it’s returning $273, 610 from its operating budget to county coffers.

The CCSO says that the monies were raised through fees,  such as those associated with serving civil process or fulfilling public records requests, or from savings realized by conservative measures taken on essentials like fuel consumption.

Specifically, the more-than-a-quarter-of-a-million dollars was garnered from the agency’s general fund ($142,109.55), as well as from its budget component for Judicial Services ($131,499.71).

“This agency will continue to coordinate both its resources and expenditures to maintain a financial position that is both prudent and fiscally sound,” Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said. He also commended all of his employees for their diligence and exceptional efforts in “toeing the line” during these tough economic times facing not only Citrus County, but the nation as a whole.

The sheriff’s office also recently gave a one-time payout to all employees that totaled more than $400,000.
