A fire on Friday destroyed a home that was under renovation in Inverness.
Citrus County firefighters were called out at 4:31 p.m. to battle the fire at 12275 E Gulf to Lake Highway.
The first unit to arrive found the 1,200 square-foot block home engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control within 23 minutes, according to the fire report.
Homeowner Adrian Bergwerff was not living in the home, but was renovating it so he could rent it out. Sumter County Fire Rescue responded with three units to assist firefighters, since it was so close to the county line. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate the cause of the fire.
There were no injuries in the fire. The home was a total loss, with damages estimated at $60,000 to the building and contents.
